At their Sept. 16 regular meeting, the JISD Board of Trustees recognized many members of the JISD family.

The board recognized the Joshua NJROTC for starting the 2024-25 off on the right foot. Joshua Rifle Teams traveled to Anniston, Alabama in July to train and compete with the best marksmen in the nation. At a Civilian Marksmanship Program-sanctioned match on July 26, six Joshua High School cadets made finals. Joshua Precision took 1st, 2nd and 3rd place In order, they are Brooklyn Reames, Nathan Catoe and Cooper Dent. Although they were competing as individuals, had the top four Joshua cadets been scored as a team, it would have been a national record.

Cadet Reames was selected by the Legion of Valor, for their prestigious Bronze Cross for Achievement. The Legion of Valor is a fraternal organization comprised of the remaining Medal of Honor and Service Cross recipients. Representatives of the Legion will present the award at the Navy Ball on October 2. 

9-16-24 School Board Meeting Recognitions - NJROTC

The board recognized members of the JHS Owl Football team for bringing home a state award. On June 22, the "Big Fellas" (primarily offensive and defensive linemen) headed west to compete in the annual Hardin Simmons University State Lineman Challenge. To qualify for the State Lineman Challenge, the team attended the regional qualifying meeting in San Marcos the week before, where they took 1st place in the 5A classification.

The Owls placed 1st overall in the bench press and farmer's carry; 2nd in the Obstacle Course; and 3rd in truck push, tire flip, and dumbbell stack. To finish the meet for double points Joshua placed 2nd in Tug of War.

The board recognized Plum Creek Elementary's Nikki Febinger who was awarded the Power of Partnership Award by the United Way of Johnson County. The award recognizes companies and people who embody collaboration. These dedicated and creative collaborators extend their hearts, minds, dollars and goods to further the mission of the United Way in an invaluable and immeasurable way.

JHS Yearbook advisor David Vogelgesang and his students presented a copy of the 2024 yearbook to the board as well as the JISD administration.
